Officers Mess Manager (Hospitality, F&B, Hotel Services)

Job Introduction

As Mess Manager, you'll perform and supervise the day to day activities of the Mess, ensuring your team are engaged, motivated and getting the most from their role.

Are you fed up of working every weekend, long hours and split shifts, not being able to spend time with family & friends, but this comes with working in the hospitality sector, doesn't it? Not with Sodexo, we value our colleagues' quality of life.. 

You'll promote and manage functions (occasional weekends and evenings) including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team.  Our functions range from Family Fun Days and BBQ's, to fine dining/high end Dinners. 

Victoria Barracks were built in 1853[ and were enlarged in 1911, home to the Coldstream Guards, they remain the place from where troops set off to change the guard at Windsor Castle.

Role Responsibility

  • Perform and supervise the day to day activities of the Mess, to the benefit of all members and residents
  • Promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team
  • Ensure standards of service detailed in the contract are achieved, maintained and developed
  • Liaise with the key stakeholders (PMC/RSM and mess committee) to develop relationships and promote Sodexo
  • Lead the team, ensuring engagement and motivation is high, and colleagues perform at their best.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proven experience in hospitality sector, including stock management, cash control and customer service
  • Proven track record of leading, managing and developing a team
  • Experience of working in a military environment
  • Proven experience of managing client relationships
  • Good numerical and communication skills, must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication
  • Management knowledge of health & safety and food safety
  • Able to work on own initiative within a team environment
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and adherence to standards
  • Able to analyse problems analytically, develop opportunities and implement innovative solutions

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a similar role within the service industry at a comparable level in a company
  • IOSH and CIEH qualifications or equivalent
