Lab Technician - Biology

Job Introduction

We currently have an opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a customer focused individual to join a world leading food and facilities management company, which can offer unrivalled opportunities for career progression

Role Responsibility

  • Comply with all occupational health and safety rules and regulations. Be aware of hazards and recommendations for safety improvements if necessary.
  • Maintenance of cell lines including expansion, passaging and freeze/thaw procedures and plating cells for assays.
  • Isolation of mononuclear cells from human peripheral blood.
  • Preparation of media, reagents or other materials for use by scientific staff and deliver to point of use e.g.  buffer solutions, cardice, lab consumables.
  • Perform all in-lab tasks in accordance with agreed protocols and established SOPs.
  • Operate to approved quality standards (e.g., GLP/GMP).  Maintain QA systems by keeping accurate records of work undertaken, methods used and results achieved.  Recording experimental results.
  • Housekeeping duties including preparation, maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
  • Calibration checks and preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments. E.g. balances, pH meters, automated liquid handlers, bio safety cabinets, incubators.
  • Handling of hazardous chemicals and biological samples
  • All work is undertaken within a Bio safety level 2 environment; PPE must be worn at all times.
  • Ordering and replenishment of laboratory consumables stock.
  • Liaise with scientific staff and other team members.
  • Assist with the preparation of SOPs and Risk Assessments.
  • Work flexibly depending on team priorities and support requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

 

 

  • BSc in relevant scientific subject (e.g. cell biology, biochemistry or molecular biology).
  • Previous experience of working with cell culture or/and primary cells using excellent aseptic technique.
  •  Ability to follow protocols consistently and to produce accurate records.
  •  Experience in writing technical procedures and safety related documents an advantage.
  • Ability to prioritize and work to deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent team-working behaviours, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly committed, organised, self-motivated and able to manage a complex workload.
  • Previous experience in a GMP or laboratory environment would be an advantage.
  • Hep B vaccination would be an advantage.
  • IOSH or other safety qualification would be desirable
