Hospitality and Hotel Services Manager (MOD Mess)

Job Introduction

As Mess Manager you'll perform and supervise the day to day catering and hospitality activities in our prestigious Mess at one of our MOD sites.

You'll promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the wider catering team, ensuring standards of service are maintained and developed.  You'll also ensure your team of ten colleagues are engaged, motivated and getting the most from their roles.

Our Mess functions range from Family Fun Days/BBQ's, to fine dining/high end Dinners. 

This is predominantly a Monday to Friday job, with occasional weekend/evenings to meet business needs. It’s a great opportunity for someone to support our Armed Forces and improve the quality of their daily life.

Role Responsibility

  • Perform and supervise the day to day activities of the Mess, to the benefit of all members and residents
  • Promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team
  • Ensure standards of service detailed in the contract are achieved, maintained and developed
  • Liaise with the key stakeholders (PMC/RSM) and mess committee to develop relationships and promote Sodexo
  • Contribute to the growth of all services in order to meet client and commercial expectations whilst maintaining strict budgetary control within operational business area in line with client and Sodexo expectations
  • Embrace the principles of Collaborative Business Relationships (BS11000), in line with Sodexo’s vision and values
  • Manage all aspects of performance and development of your team

The Ideal Candidate

  • Knowledge from experience of working in a management role within the soft FM service industry - catering, hospitality, hotel services etc
  • Leadership skills and knowledge - People management skills including general HR skills in recruitment, training and managing colleague performance including disciplinary and grievance procedures.
  • Management knowledge of health & safety and food safety
  • Good numerical, interpersonal and communication skills, must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to make independent decisions
  • Able to work on own initiative within a team environment
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
Desirable:
  • Experience of working within military environment
  • Previous experience in effectively managing in a similar role
  • Health and Safety qualification equivalent to IOSH managing safely
  • Specific technical skills including contract catering, hospitality, retail and cleaning knowledge and skills
  • Proven experience of managing client relationships within a contract environment.

Package Description

Competitive salary of £21,000-£23,000 plus benefits including 20 days + (average 8 days) statutory holiday, pension, option to 'buy' additional flexible benefits such as holidays, healthcare etc
