Job Introduction

Sodexo Justice Services is a custodial services company with a reputation for delivering high quality services through its philosophy that everyone can develop and make changes for the better.   HMP & YOI Peterborough is the country’s first and only dual purpose built prison for both men and women, who are kept separate at all times and it also hosts the world’s first payment by results project for offenders. Work is well underway on an exciting Prison extension project which will increase capacity by nearly a third and SJS are poised for exciting and large-scale growth in the near future.

The Learning, Skills and Employment function sits at the very heart of the prison and the Education team focus on delivering focus on delivering vocational training including catering, cleaning, beauty and bricklaying courses (amongst others)  that will enable the prisoners to gain skills and competencies that will assist them to return into the community without re-offending.

We now seek to add a further Hair & Beauty Instructor to the team as a result of increased investment.  Reporting to the Learning Manager the role is diverse, thought-provoking and challenging/rewarding in equal measure

Role Responsibility

• Plan hair and beauty courses and programmes to allow for varying levels of knowledge and aptitudes within the prisoner population
• Deliver absorbing hair and beauty lesson plans to engage and retain prisoner attention and attendance
• Report on prisoner progress and collaborate with colleagues to improve sentence management, increase hair and beauty skills and prepare prisoners for release
• Encourage, support and sustain prisoners seeking to broaden their life and catering skills
• Ensure compliance with relevant teaching, quality assurance and testing/assessment guidelines

The Ideal Candidate

• Ideally a full teaching qualification – PGDE, K/DTTLS or equivalent - and a Level 3 qualification in hair, or beauty or a related subject.
• Previous experience in training environment – either in education or industry.
• Strong organisational skills – both in terms of people and materials
• Evidence of the ability to build relationships across the classroom, department and prison as a whole
• Assessor or Internal verifier qualification would also be highly desirable

*Personality and attitude are at least as important as experience.  However,  whilst we need to see that a Instructor has started to gain the relevant learning and development qualifications, we are prepared to work with exceptional candidates to help the achieve the required accreditations within a reasonable timeframe.

Package Description

£23,000 to £26,000 dependant on qualifications plus excellent benefits (including free meals and parking, group discount schemes and pension with up to 38 days holiday)
