HMP Addiewell is a learning prison, with a strong and concerted focus on learning not to reoffend, relevant skills training and employability and we work with all areas of the wider community to ensure prisoners have the best possible chance of leading positive lives following release. Addiewell opened in 2008 and has become an integral part of the Scottish Prison Service estate earning much praise from (amongst others) HMCIP, for its innovation, use of technology, strong partnership working as well as its “can do” culture.

As Family Support Co-ordinator working within the Integrated Case Management team, you will deliver and promote an integrated, quality family support service at HMP Addiewell, supporting Prisoners and their families while working as part of a team to provide a flexible and responsive service to support and guide prisoners, families and children.

You'll also deliver a range of qualifications whilst assessing against the recognised national standards.

Role Responsibility

  • Promote and publicise family related purposeful activity work within HMP Addiewell.
  • Form good working relationships within an multi-agency integrated setting to identify the needs of prisoners and families
  • Develop, implement and support family orientated initiatives to the national standards while conducting continuous evaluation and improvement.
  • Carry out planned direct work with families in the community.
  • Provide opportunities for positive experiences for Prisoners, families and children which enable all to achieve appropriate development, and ensure that the needs of each individual are catered for.
  • Where necessary to participate in reviews and case conferences.
  • Support parents to access education, training and employment.
  • Provide regular feedback to prisoners and families and give group and individual support to enable them to achieve the maximum benefit from their chosen activity.
  • Monitor and review the work done with families within the Visitors Centre area.

*The hours of work will require flexibility over 37.5 hours to meet the demands of the service - this will include some evening and/or weekend work

The Ideal Candidate

  • Extensive experience of working with families either in a custodial setting or community environment
  • Experience of partnership and multi-agency working.
  • Awareness of child protection frameworks and child development needs.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.
  • High level of organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Appropriate Learning & Development qualification up to SCQF level 7, or be willing to work towards this as personal development

*You must be Prisoner Custody Officer badged at the time of application or as a condition of acceptance of this role be prepared to train as a Prisoner Custody Officer - this will involve the passing of a fitness test prior to interview.

Relationships with Prisoners – Must be able to act as an Instructor, Assessor and prison Custody Officer seamlessly, adhering to Prison procedures pertaining to safety, security and the welfare of self and others.

Communication skills - Ability to converse in a clear and stimulating manner

Resource Allocation - Ability to make use of a variety of resources and to use them to create a variety of positive experiences for Prisoners.

Personal, Professional skills – Committed to a Pro Social model, ability to adapt to a Prison environment, participative and supportive

 

Package Description
