Cleaning & Waste Operations Manager

Job Introduction

Reporting to the Soft Services Manager, this role ensures the efficient and effective delivery of high standards of cleaning across the venue, managing all aspects of waste management services including events and racedays. As the Cleaning and Waste Manager, you will ensure Health and Safety regulations are complied with and the team are fully trained with all the essential equipment to carry out operations. Undertaking weekly inspections you will drive high standards and ensure results and consistently delivered.

Role Responsibility

This is a key role at one of our busiest and prestigious venues, where you will need to lead the  cleaning and waste operations team to ensure all staff are fully trained and feel confident in their role, keeping their skills  up to date with the latest processes and techniques, which  will drive continual improvements in cleaning and waste standards. Your role will also involve promoting

and embedding a positive Health & Safety culture across the team, ensuring the department and all members of the cleaning team are compliant with all relevant H&S and statutory requirements pertinent to the area. You will provide leadership to the cleaning and waste operations team and act as a role model to motivate and support the team to maintain a working culture that maximises staff engagement.

  • Manage a team of cleaning and waste operatives to ensure they are all fully trained in procedures relevant to their role.
  • Ensure that schedules for daily cleaning, conference and event cleaning and deep cleaning requirements are carried out with staff rostered accordingly to achieve these and within budget.
  • Undertake internal audits ensuring they are measured and documented against the agreed KPIs and that appropriate corrective actions are taken and recorded.
  • Comply with all Sodexo and Client site rules and regulations when carrying out cleaning tasks.
  • Maintain stock levels of all consumables and chemicals on site.
  • Ensure that daily checklists are in place for all pieces of heavy duty cleaning equipment and used by trained operatives only, liaising with the nominated supplier for regular service checks.
  • Develop, plan and maintain cleaning schedules/ tasks which are followed up which build in to internal auditing software.  Carry out internal audits, ensuring corrective actions as required are carried out in a timely manner.

 

 

The Ideal Candidate

  • A competent professional with experience of managing and leading a cleaning and waste team.
  • High level of technical cleaning knowledge.
  • Experience of using heavy duty cleaning machinery, window cleaning knowledge, general housekeeping and office cleaning.
  • Flexible approach to working and committed to frequent weekend working (racedays) and  occasional night shifts.
  • Industry acumen and knowledge of cleaning systems and methodology.
  • BICSs/ BIFM qualification.
  • IOSH Managing Safely Certificate.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective listening, written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to identity and implement innovative and solutions to drive improvements.
  • IT Skills – Good working knowledge of MS Office, including:
    • Word – create and edit documents and reports
    • Excel – able to use intermediate data analysis tools
    • PowerPoint – intermediate level
  • Ability to organise workloads and to prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • An inherent customer service ethos.

Will work on a rota pattern of 5 on 2 off, additional evening and weekend work will be required to fulfill the needs of the business particularly around racing and conference events. Where a weekend day is worked a lieu day will be accrued inline with Sodexo policy.
