HMP YOI Bronzefield is an all female prison that can hold up to 527 women.
The Learning and Skills function sits at the very heart of the prison and focuses on delivering educational and vocational opportunities for prisoners to gain skills and competencies that will help them avoid re-offending on their return into the community.
The Catering Tutor is a crucial and exciting role at Bronzefield as the focus will be on providing training opportunities in education and work experience for prisoners within the new catering workshop
Role Responsibility
- Work with the education and regime delivery teams to produce innovative and stimulating lessons for prisoners
- Establish a rapport with prisoners and encourage them to take their first steps in learning and achieve a recognised qualification
- Provide breakfast, lunchtime and beverage services to staff together with ad hoc requests for a three course lunch
- Encourage and improve participation and develop strategies to increase take-up to ensure maximum attendance
- Identify the needs of individuals in classes and groups and develop teaching methods and resources accordingly
- Monitor attendance, achievement and progression of learners
The Ideal Candidate
- Recognised Level 3 NVQ qualification or above in Catering is essential OR a recognised Level 2 NVQ qualification or above in Catering plus an Assessors qualification with relevant experience
- Be able to develop relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Effective organisational skills including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Flexibility to undertake a range of very different tasks
- Have a full teaching qualification – or commit to achieving one
